LINKS TO NFWI CAMPAIGN RESOURCES:

From Austerity to Abundance: Waste Not Want Not

SAT 15TH SEPT 2018, 10AM TO 4PM, AT RAINHAM HALL, ESSEX

Come and join us on a great day out in support of the WI campaign on food waste.

Entrance is free apart from entrance to the Hall itself, where normal NT admission fees apply.

WHY NOT ENTER ONE OF THE FEWI COMPETITIONS? DETAILS BELOW…

Come to our special one day event with the National Trust at Rainham Hall!

Their current theme is ‘Remembering the Day Nursery’. It’s set in World War II when the Hall was used as a children’s nursery to allow mothers to undertake war work. This has been a key focus for the WI over many years, especially during wartime. Parts of the exhibition focus on food rationing, digging for victory and more, and FEWI are involved in various exhibits, talks and activities.

For full details of this event, please go to the Events Diary page here:

From Austerity to Abundance – Waste Not Want Not

Entrance is free apart from entrance to the Hall itself, where normal NT admission fees apply. However you will be asked to make a small donation to help us cover the cost of the event. Many of us will be dressing in 1940’s clothes in line with the theme of the day, so feel free to join us in costume too!

COMPETITIONS

Click here: Food Austerity Competition Details to download the Schedule and Entry Forms which can be found part way down the diary page entry.

As part of this day to recognise the value of food and avoid waste, WI’s are asked to accept the following invitations to enter one, two or all of the competitions below:

  • Your WI is invited to enter one jar of soft fruit jam – e.g. blackberries, blackcurrants, elderberries, figs, gooseberries, grapes, loganberries, mulberries, raspberries, rhubarb, strawberries, redcurrants, bilberries and blueberries.
  • Your WI is invited to enter one jar of chutney or pickle – needs to be kept for at least 2 months before showing. Lid must have a good fit. The label must state the ‘heat’ of the preserve eg mild or hot.
  • Your WI is invited to enter one jar of bottled fruit – this is judged on presentation and not flavour. All entries must be in jars that have new lids that are not screw top (these are available from the WI shop). Jars must also be clean and sterilized or new and preferably free from trade names.

Entries should be delivered to FEWI, Hatfield Peveral, CM3 2AG by 3rd September 2018 at the latest. When delivered the enclosed completed entries form (leaving the first column blank) should be attached securely to your WI entries. We also ask that you consider donating the batch of any entry to the FEWI in order that these can be used to help towards the cost of running this event.

Entries will be judged on 6th September 2018.

Entries will be exhibited and results given in the Pride of the WI exhibition at the event on 15th September 2018.
